Advantous’ Rachael Averett was among the industry experts presenting at the Institute for Professionals in Taxation’s Sales Tax Symposium, where she participated in “SaaS, Services, or Something Else? Digital Taxability Issues Where the Facts Matter and the States Disagree.”

The session explored the evolving taxability of digital products and services, including the challenges businesses face navigating differing approaches across states.

Advantous’ Jason DeCuir joined fellow state tax professionals at the Council On State Taxation’s (COST) 57th Annual Meeting in San Antonio for a panel discussion titled “When Tax Administrators Try to Be Legislators.”

The discussion explored the evolving relationship between tax legislation, regulatory interpretation, and administration, including the boundaries of administrative authority, the challenges businesses face in navigating differing interpretations of tax law, and the options available to taxpayers when challenging administrative actions or interpretations.

Today at Advantous’ 6th Annual SALT Summit, held at the Omni Hotel in Houston, we welcomed Texas Comptroller candidates Senator Sarah Eckhardt and Comptroller Don Huffines for an engaging discussion on the future of Texas’ tax landscape. 🧂

Comptroller Huffines reflected on his first months in office following his appointment by Governor Greg Abbott on July 2, discussing the work and priorities that have shaped his tenure so far.

During his remarks Comptroller Huffines announced and signed a new Executive Order DH-2026-02 live on stage at the Summit, directing a rule change to eliminate the sales tax on electronic medical records and other healthcare technology systems.

Advantous’ Jason DeCuir joined the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry (LABI) in Washington, D.C. for its 2026 Federal Outreach Tour, bringing Louisiana business leaders together with congressional leaders and national policy experts for conversations on the federal issues impacting Louisiana’s business climate and economy.

As part of the visit, Jason had the opportunity to speak alongside leaders and experts gathered for the tour, sharing his perspective on the tax and policy issues affecting Louisiana businesses.

Jason serves as Chair of LABI’s Taxation and Finance Council, where he works alongside business and policy leaders on tax and fiscal matters impacting Louisiana businesses and economic development.

Advantous’ Carl Walker recently joined Brent South of the Hunt County Appraisal District at the Annual Legal Seminar on Ad Valorem Taxation for a panel discussion on House Bill 9.

Carl and Brent shared their perspectives on the legislation and its impact on the property tax landscape in Texas.
